That’s not a problem with vintage dr martens, which used thicker high quality leather, and a PVC sole, in fact the label used to say that the sole was repairable. (I will update this post when my vintage MIE boots arrive) With proper care leather can last decades.
Use a hammer on the heel of the boots. If the boots weren’t wrapped before the hammer, it might have damaged them. Pound the heel and sole of the boot with a hammer for 15 to 20 minutes. Use a rubber mallet instead of a hammer if you’re worried about damaging your Doc Martens. A hammer will rough up the new leather on your Doc Martens.
